Welcome to
Veterans Memorial Bridge
The Veterans Memorial Truss Bridge was built between 1933 and 1935, it was 4,380 ft long. It was opened as a toll bridge on January 18th 1936. On September 26th 1947 the bridge was finally free of tolls. This bridge was removed in 2010. The new bridge is 4,300 ft long with its main truss spanning 625 ft. The original concrete pillars and commemorative plaques were retained and reinstalled to continue recognition of the new bridge as the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
On May 20th 1995 The Veterans Memorial Bridge was dedicated to the men and women of our armed forces who responded to our country's highest call to preserve the principles of freedom and democracy and to those of future generations who will bravely follow in their footsteps in the quest of worldwide peace. The new bridge commemorative plaques are displayed just south of the bridge. See pictures below.
